The season has really begun!  Our heirloom tomato bedding plants are ready and are for sale at the field right now.  The only produce we have at this time is our leafy Romaine lettuce which we are selling at the field and at the Crow Wing Food Co-Op in Brainerd.

Opening day for the Nisswa Market at the Nisswa American Legion parking lot is Thursday, May 10th.  Opening days for the Lakes Area Growers Market are as follows:  Gander Mountain Parking Lot in Baxter - Friday, May 11th and the Franklin Arts Center Parking Lot in Brainerd - Tuesday, May 15th.  Times for all markets are 8:00 - 12:30.  We will be selling our bags of lettuce and will have our tomato plants available for sale along with some pepper, broccoli, and cauliflower bedding plants.  Oh, don't let me forget - we have our beautiful "Instant Gardens" available complete with many green tomatoes and lots of blossoms!

We will have our plants available at Ace Hardware in Brainerd again this year and will add a date for that when we have it set.

John & Ruth are looking forward to seeling you either at the field or at one of the markets.  We are looking forward to a successful growing season and will keep you posted on new produce as it reaches maturity.

SPRING 2012 is here.  Such a nice winter for those that don't care for the "Good Old-fashioned Minnesota" winters. We made it through the winter celebrating our big "Minnesota Christmas" family get-together in November.  John & I went to see our boy, Joe & his family in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina over Christmas.  John had the misfortune of suffering from a herniated disk for a few weeks this winter caused from over working it while building greenhouse #6.  All seems well now as long as he doesn't push it too hard.  I had the privilege of going to the Dominican Republic with my four daughters and three of my granddaughters in January.  It was wonderful!  John got to stay home to take care of the tomatoes:(  Hope you all had a great winter.

It won't be long now as some of the tomatoes are blossoming already and the lettuce and Swiss Chard are planted.  Will let you know when things are ready for picking.

All of our berries, grapes, and outside produce are done for the year. It was a great berry year and we would like to thank all of our customers for coming out to pick or purchase produce at the farm.  The summer raspberries and blueberris were fantastic this year.  Pray for lots of snow cover and a rainly spring and summer for next year.  The extreme heat and drought later in the season took it's toll on our fall raspberries and fall strawberries.  Just don't know what to figure for weather anymore, things are so different every year.  There is no "Norm" anymore.  It was a shame that we lost our grapes to the downy mildew and other funguses caused by the wet part of the season.  Hopefully next year, the conditions will be right for them again.

We still have lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers in our greenhouses. The preparation for winter has started with the clean-up and the building of another greenhouse and trellises for more strawberries.  Farmer's Markets are coming to a close with the end of October approaching.

We have become part of the Farm to School movement providing peppers, cucumbers, and kohlrabi to ISD 181 here in Brainerd for the salad bars in the various schools.

Thanks again to all of our great customers that stopped by the farmers markets or visited us at the farm.  Hope to see you all again next year.

FALL BERRIES ARE READY PDF Print E-mail

Our fall raspberries and fall strawberries are ready for picking.  Please call 218-829-3241 to see what days they are available for picking.  Both will continue to produce until a hard frost.

We have lost our grapes for this season because of the downy mildew, anthracnose, and bunch rot all caused from the rainy humid weather.  The vines haven't been hurt, so they will be back again next year and we should have a crop again in 2012.

We have noticed that due to the popularity of the fall strawberries, we may have to add more rows next year!!!!

Our summer raspberries are finished for the 2011 season.  Our blueberries will probably finish up this coming week of August 15th.  We are guessing that our fall strawberries will be open to the public about August 23rd.  We are guessing that our fall raspberries will be ready for picking about August 29th.  Sorry we are doing so much guessing, but with the deluge of rainy weather, things have been quite unpredictable this year.  Please call 218-829-3241 to check on the availability.

Thanks for your patience and we will keep you informed on the fall berries.
